Glare and High Energy Visible Blue light, or HEV, can be harmful because of the physical effects experienced by over exposure to each. Glare can cause squinting, eye fatigue and a reduction in vision. HEV, blue and violet light, has shorter wavelengths, and has been shown to be harmful to your eyes over time causing cataracts (a clouding of the lens) and more seriously age related macular degeneration (AMD) (the part of the retina where visual perception is most acute).
UV rays, which are invisible to the human eye, include UVA and UVB. UVA, aging rays, and UVB, burning rays: both cause damage to the eyes. Some types of exposure to harmful UV rays include direct exposure to the sun, and light reflected off any surface like water, sand, or snow. Over exposure to UV can lead to cataracts, pterygium (tissue growth that can block your vision), AMD, and an increased risk of skin cancer around the eyes.
