Happy Spring Break! I’m sure many families are enjoying or planning many fun activities while the kids are out of school this week. Whether you are planning a big vacation getaway or having a “staycation”, a trip can be ruined if an accident happens so here are some tips for eye health and protecting your eyes while you are on holiday.
Remember to pack your eye care essentials when travelling. If you are a contact lens wearer that means a clean case and cleaning solution. A great option for holidays are daily contact lenses that you can just wear for the day and throw away so you don’t have to worry about cleaning the lenses or bringing a big bottle of solution with you when you go through the airport. You can even wear daily contacts for swimming provided you use a new pair of lenses afterwards.
Don’t forget to bring your extra pair of glasses just in case you lose or break your regular glasses or can’t wear your contacts. If you are going to be spending a lot of time outdoors, then you need to protect your eyes with good sunglasses. Consider the option of prescription sunglasses so that you can maintain clear vision even when you take off your regular glasses.
If you are preparing for an extended trip or the kids have some time off school it might be a good time to come in for an eye exam to check your family’s visual health and ensure that everyone is using the right glasses prescription. Alberta Health Covers eyes exams for kids between the ages of 0-18 years! Water start as early as 6 months.
